1. PUAASC New Leaders Nomination
Dear Alumni,
The last PUAASC Board of Directors (BOD) and Executive Committee (EC)
election was held in December 2001. Now the EC and half of the BOD
will finish their terms in December 2003. PUAASC needs new blood to
bring our alumni together.
You are asked to nominate yourself or other alumni to these positions
by October 15 by sending an e-mail to info@pku.org.
The election process is as follows:
10/15: All BOD and EC nominations go to info@pku.org.
10/19 Sunday 11:30-2:30: BBQ lunch at Bryan Xu's home for all EC
nominees.
10/26 Sunday 3:00-6:30: Alternative EC nominees meeting at Westside
Pavilion, free dinner served.
November: Preparing BOD and EC candidates introduction materials.
EC candidates form teams of five alumni. Only one team will be
elected.
12/1: EC candidate teams information is available to all alumni.
Advanced voting is accepted by e-mails.
12/13 or 12/14: Election Day. EC candidate teams present. All
alumni are invited to vote in person. Only one team will be
elected. Entertainment will be provided.
12/13 or 12/14: Board of Directors meeting. EC election result is
confirmed. New Board of Directors are elected.
1/1/2004-12/31/2005: New BOD and EC assume responsibility.
Basic information:
In December 2001, the EC candidate team consisting of Sikun Lan,
Hongmei Li, Lina Pei, Connie Yuan, and Wensheng Zhou was elected.
In 2002, BOD approved to add Lihong Yang to EC. Their term
expires in December 2003.
BOD consists of 12 alumni. Six of them have terms until December
2005: Jason Cong, Richard Lee, Zhen-su She, Lijean Wang, Duanzhi
Wen, and Peter Zhang. Another six of them have terms until
December 2003: Julie Gao, Lee Min Han, Sikun Lan, Bryan Xu, Feng
Zeng, and John Zhang. The latter six seats are subject to
election in December 2003.
The election of BOD and EC follows the Bylaws of PUAASC, a
501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The basic requirements for EC candidate team are:
- Each team has five alumni. One alumni is the PUAASC President
candidate and the other four are the PUAASC Vice President
candidates.
- Each team must have a Secretary General and an Accountant.
- All team members must be ready to spend an average of at least
one hour per week on PUAASC day-to-day operation management.
- Majority of members are likely to live in Southern California
in the next two years.
- The team will be ready to represent PUAASC in the community
and protect PKU's and its alumni's reputation.
- The elected team will become the Executive Committee of PUAASC
serving from 1/1/2004 to 12/31/2005.
The basic requirements for BOD candidates are:
- The candidate must be highly achieved in his/her career or
be well-respected in the community or have contributed to
PUAASC work for at least six months.
- The candidate must be ready to attend PUAASC Board meetings,
which are held once or twice a year, and contribute ideas or
make donations to PUAASC from time to time.
- The candidate are likely to live in Southern California in
the next four years.
- The elected individual will become a Board Director of PUAASC
serving from 1/1/2004 to 12/31/2007.

2. Guangzhou Conference 12/28-30
The Sixth Convention of Overseas Scholars in Science and
Technology will be held in Guangzhou on 12/28-30. This convention
is co-sponsored by cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Changchun,
Hangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Xi'an, and Suzhou. Free meals and board
will be provided for attendees from 12/26-30. Family members and
partners are welcome with service discounts.

The confirmation will be received in 10 days. After you receive the

with other attendees from Southern California. Attending the
convention in group enjoys certain benefits. It is generally
advised that you complete the application and book your air tickets
by the end of October.
