Hi, Wenge, Sikun and Zeng Feng,
I attended Peking University Alumni Forum at Zhu Hai on Oct. 28th, 2001. The
forum was combined and sponsored by Baida Education Investment Corporation
Limited who established a Baida Ke Ji Yuan at Zhu Hai, Guang Dong Province.
The management team of Peking University paid highly interests in this forum,
president Xu Zhihong and the Peking University Party Secretary, Prof. Wang De
Bin, vice president Hao Bin of PKU Alumni Association, Vice president Lü Zhao
Feng (from Peking Univ. Medical School) and some others attended the forum and
gave speech at the forum. There are about 80 representatives from various Baida
Alumni Association of almost all provinces and big cities of China.
Professor Wang gave a short opening speech, and then President Xu introduced the
current status of Baida and what Baida will do and its needs in the next one or
two years. Vice president Lu introduced the situation of the Medical School of
Peking University after the successful merge of two independent universities.
Vice President Hao Bin focused on the future work of the Peking University
Alumni Association Office and of the Education Foundation of Peking University.
He gave suggestions for all the representatives to discuss in the afternoon of
Oct. 28. One of important issues all the four University leaders emphasized was
the merge of the Alumni Associations of the former two universities - Peking
Univ. and the former Beijing Medical University. The leaders gave us a 16-word
guideline: "Duo1 Yuan2 Yi4 Ti1, Zhi4 Yuan4 Xie2 Xiang1, Ji1 Ji2 Ying2 Dao3,
Shun4 Qi2 Zhi4 Yan2".
I have more details in written documents distributed in the forum, and I will
gave them to you too.
Following the University leaders' speech, Peking University also presented the
honors to some alumni. They planned to give four types of honor to alumni: the
first one is the distinguished alumni of Peking University who made
distinguished contributions to the country and the nation - this one is of the
highest honor and criteria; however, due the selection criteria from different
alumni association is different and hard to judge during the very short time, so
PKU decided not to present this honor to any one this year, but leave the prize
to next time; the second type of prize is honor to those who are friends of
Baida - Bei1 Jing1 Da1 Xue2 Rong2 Yu4 Xiao4 You3; the third type of prize is
honored to those who are distinguished in the volunteering working for the
alumni societies (Bei1 Jing1 Da4 Xue2 You1 Shou4 Xiao4 You3 Gong1 Zhuo1 Jiang3);
the fourth type of prize is honored to those who contributed a lot to the work
of alumni and contributed their time and money to support the various Beida
causes - Bei1 Jing1 Da4 Xue2 Xiao4 You2 Gong1 Zhuo1 Gong4 Xian4 Jiang2). This
time, three alumni from PUAASC have got prizes, Mr. Lan Sikun got a "You1 Shou4
Xiao4 You3 Gong1 Zhuo1 Jiang3; Mr. Wen Run Zhi and Ms. Wang Li Zhen got "Xue2
Xiao4 You2 Gong1 Zhuo1 Gong4 Xian4 Jiang2".
I was the only representative coming from alumni from overseas and gave a speech
on behalf of PUAASC. Only 5 out of 40 Baida alumni associations were given the
chance to give a speech in the morning of the overall meeting, which is a honor
to PUAASC too. The title of my speech is How to Raise fund for the Education
Foundation of Peking University in Overseas. My speech mainly follow the outline
given by Wenge through the email and Wenge's speech given at the Bay Area in
middle of April when The Education Foundation of Peking University (USA) was
founded (the speech of Wenge and the photograph of you three with president Xu
are published the newest journal Bai Da Ren). I will gave the Journal Bai Da Ren
to you guys together with other materials.
