Peking University Alumni Association of Southern California will organize an
immigration seminar on immigration new procedures and immigration issues that
you must know for the benefit of Chinese students, scholars, company employees,
and new-comers.
The seminar will be hosted by Alice H. Sun, an Alumni Support Director of
PUAASC. Alice H. Sun is a licensed attorney with Law Offices of Sun Associated
with Shaub & Williams. She has ten years experience in immigration law practice.
There will be an hour and a half detailed introduction of the latest immigration
law issues and an hour questions and answers section. The introduction will be
in Chinese language. The Q&A section is at free choice of either English or
Chinese language.
The immigration issues to be addressed include the following:

A detailed introduction of the CIS legal requirements for each
classification.
A comparison of different classifications in order to help the audience
make the best choice.
3. How can you maintain F-1 status?
4. What is CPT? What is OPT? When is the good time for you to apply for OPT?
5. J-1 2-year residence requirements and application for a waiver.
6. What is O1?
III. Immigration Issues You Must Know: For Chinese Alien Workers Employed in
Companies.
1. H1B Applications:
Who are eligible for H1B?
Qualification requirements for Employer;
H1B visa numbers and cap gap;
2. Labor Certification Application for US Permanent Residence
What is "PERM"?
Do you know that many major U.S. companies are no longer qualified to file
Labor Certification applications for their alien employees?
What can you do?
IV. How can you chose an attorney to help you in your immigration matters?
1. What are the dangers to hire a non-licensed attorney such as "immigration
services" "immigration specialists" etc., to represent you?
2. How do you know whether the person who answers your immigration questions
is a licensed attorney or not? Method to check an attorney's license
status.
