Calling on donation for Jianhong Hu, a Duke postdoc in Biology department

Dear all Chinese fellows,

My classmate, Jianhong Hu from Peking university, is suffering from kidney

failure and infection in the lungs due to immune system suppression. We are

calling on this urgent donation for him because his financial resourses is

limited. He is in need of our help to save his life.

Jianhong was born in Zhejiang province. He got his bachelor's degree in biology

at Peking University in 1997 and then came to Vermont University , Vermont for

his Ph.D study. Currently he is a postdoc working in biology department at Duke

university.

Below is a letter from Duke CSSA asking for our help.

Thank you,

Yingchun Lu

Bio 1997 Peking University

Postdoc with UCLA

Jianhong started working in our lab last fall. Shortly after, he was diagnosed

with kidney failure by Duke Hospital. Since the waiting list in US for kidney

transplant is apparently very long, he decided to go back to China. Jianhong

returned to China for a kidney transplant this spring. Although he received a

kidney, there have been complications.

Because his immune system was suppressed to accept the new kidney, he soon

caught infection in the lung. This sent him back into the emergency room.

Jianhong is now in intensive care. The Chinese system is such that Jianhong must

pay for treatment, in advance, on a daily basis. There is a very real danger

that, if he cannot make the payments, he will not receive the treatment he

needs. The situation was apparently so dangerous that Zhengzheng, his wife, went

to China in a hurry two weeks ago.

Jianhong's family has exhausted their savings, and we're trying to find a way to

help. Zhengzheng, also works at Duke's microarray facility.

Jianhong and Zhengzheng have a young daughter. The daily medical bill of over

RMB 10000 will exhaust the family financially, physically and mentally.

Duke CSSA is therefore calling on this donation to help Jianhong, our dear

member and his family. You could help in either/both of the following two ways:

1) If you can afford a donation (even a dollar, literally any little bit will

help), Pls make your check payable to Ludmila Tyler (Jianhong's officemate in

Bio) and deliver it to LSRC, B327, 613-8167. For donatorsoff-campus, DCSSA can

also help to collect the contribution if you want us to transfer your donation.

Pls also make your check payable to Ludmila Tyler and mail it to Fang Liu, 130

Hudson Hall, ECE dept, Duke Univ,27708

2) A bake sale for Jianhong will be held on Thursday, September 16th from 8:45

to 11:45 in both BioSci and the LSRC. Please consider stopping by with a big

appetite.

We regret that Jianhong is suffering this disease. What we can do now is

contributing a bit to save his life. He will soon be with us again, we hope.

Thank you very much.
