Arizona Alumnus Murder Case: Suspect Reportedly Caught
posted on Dec 20 2001

Dear alumni,

Many of you cared greatly about our fellow Peking University alumnus Yang

Jianqing and his wife's murder case. We are receiving numerous generous

donations to their young daughter Yang Xue's education fund (see below for

details).

Internet news reported that the murder suspect had been caught in China last

week. You may read the news from

http://www.azstarnet.com/yangchen/1215arrest.html (English) and

http://content.sina.com/news/38/55/1385520_1_b5gif.html (Chinese).

We obtained the following information from Mr. Siliang Li, the President of

University of Arizona Association of Chinese Students and Scholars: "The family

has returned to China with Yang and Chen's ashes, as well as Xiao Xue. Asked by

the family, we agree not to release the detail return information. But I've

talked with the family several times over the phone since they left, and they

are in good condition."

Mr. Li also reported a five-member committee was set up to manage the donation

fund. "The five members are representatives from our association, the church,

chemistry department at U of A, Yang's former Bible study American pastor and

personal friend, and a representative from Homicide Survivor Funds. All the

members were chosen under great considerations of all respects, and all the

parties have the full trust and faith in this committee's operation of the

funds. Once the committee has worked out the detail plan (legal and financial

process), our association will transfer all our funds raised into this will-be

set-up account that is solely independent, and governed by the five-member

committee."

So far PUAASC has received $1,545.00 donation from 19 alumni for the education

fund for Yang Xue. Some alumni asked us not to disclose their names. We are

proud of our alumni who once again extend their hands for helping other alumni

and their families in need. These donors are:
