PUAASC 2002-2004 Executive Committee Candidate Team

1. Sikun Lan

Sikun studied at Peking University from 1984 to 1989 where he received a

Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and a second Bachelor's degree in Physics. He

received a Master's degree and Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from UCLA.

Sikun currently works as a project manager and principal member of technical

staff at Citigroup. He is involved in Citigroup's Internet infrastructure

development and content management.

Sikun joined PUAASC activities in 1991. He served as PUAASC President in 1995

and Vice President in 1999. He was awarded Outstanding Alumni Service Award

from Peking University Alumni Forum in 2001.

Election Statement:

I have been continuously benefited from what I learned at Peking University for

all these years that I am in the US. Working for our fellow alumni at PUAASC is

my honor and privilege, and staying in touch with alumni friends allows me to

enjoy additional benefits from being part of PKU.

Over the last seventeen years, PUAASC has grown to be an outstanding force in

the community and we see more and more alumni donating time, knowledge and

money for our beloved Alma Mater. If our team gets elected, I will do my best

in building PUAASC up as a true alumni's family who they can depend on to get

support, advice, information and assistance. We will provide opportunities for

our alumni to help each other and participate in the effort of building PKU as

a world class university.

2. Hongmei Li

Hongmei studied at Peking University from 1992 to 1997, where she received a

Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature and a minor degree in Law.

She worked as a copyright manage and editor at the Central Compilation and

Translation Press in Beijing after she graduated from PKU.

Hongmei is currently a Ph.D candidate at USC Annenberg School for

Communication. Her research interest includes Internet and new technologies,

media studies, cultural identities and globalization. She is now working as a

research assistant for the Metamorphosis Project, a long-term program devoted

to community studies in Los Angeles, under the principle investigator of

Professor Sandra J. Ball-Rokeach.

Hongmei was the International Student Orientation Group Leader at USC during

the summer of 2001. Her deep research interest in China made her join the

Overseas Chinese Management Association's speech and investigation tour to

Shanghai and Shandong last summer.

Election Statement:

As a doctoral candidate in communication, I believe that proper interaction

channels can not only solve most of the problems, but also make our lives

better. I think PUAASC has been and will continue to be a very important bridge

between Peking University (even China) and the USA. It will also be an arena

where PKU graduates can come together to share information and solve problems

if needed.

I feel it will be my great honor and pleasure to serve on the PUAASC Executive

Committee. I would like to devote my time to strengthening the ties among our

alumni through PUAASC so that we will not feel alone whenever we need

information, support, friendship and love. As Chinese (or even American

Chinese) residing in the US, we may meet with many problems. Only when we are

united and help each other, can we become strong, happy and creative. I

strongly believe that the PUAASC would help achieve this goal. In this process,

I would like to make my share of contribution.

3. Lina Pei

Lina studied at Peking University from 1987 to 1991 where she received a

Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Public Administration. She received

her Master of International Management (MIM) from Thunderbird, the American

Graduate School of International Management.

Lina currently is the Director of International Sales & Marketing for TCL

America, the North America division for TCL Group, the top TV manufacturer

based in China who has established international presence in over 50 countries.

She is specialized in international marketing and business development, and she

has worked with both Fortune 500 type of companies as well as Internet start-up

enterprises. Her market engagement covers Asia, Europe and America.

Lina was the Vice President of Peking University Alumni Association in San

Diego before she moved to Los Angeles.

Election Statement:

All PKU graduates are the cream of the crop from China. Among these graduates,

those who have made it to the US, those who have accomplished so much in their

new lives in the US, are especially inspiring. Here in PUAASC, I believe in the

value of staying connected with this group of outstanding people, for

friendship, for personal growth, for professional opportunities, for whatever

reason you think is worth.

With the proximity to the Asia Pacific rim, PUAASC has the particular strategic

advantage to offer more bicultural opportunities to this ever growing high

caliber community. I am running for election, because I want to contribute to

the growth of an extraordinary community that is comprised by many

extraordinary people.

4. Yu (Connie) Yuan

Connie studied at Peking University from 1990 to 1995 where she received a

at USC. Her current research interests include knowledge management, complexity

science and social networks.

Election Statement:

Like many of you, I have a lot of unforgettable memories about Peking

University. The four-year study there has changed my life in a very profound

way. I was very proud of being able to study together with a group of very

talented people. Today, I take it as my personal honor to be able to serve you

as a committee member of PUAASC. Beida Ren is well known for our intelligence,

innovativeness, ambition and perseverance. With that spirits, I believe

together we can create a bright future for us in the new world.

Wensheng joined PUAASC in 1994. She has been an active member ever since then.

Election Statement:

As a researcher and PUAASC member for quite a few years, I have benefited from

past PUAASC activities. Our organization is gaining more and more recognition

in the local communities and in China. Our members have been using their

expertise to promote the mutual understanding of the cultures and the

development in science, technology and education in China and in the US. That

is why I would like to serve as an executive committee member. I am committed

to devote my time and make more effort to expand our organization and make it

stronger and better serving our members. Since my expertise is IT, I would like

to develop more linkages with China in those fields. I have also developed a

lot of connections with local associations in the US and with people in many

provinces in China, which could be viewed as resources to our organization.
