Dear alumni,
The election for the PUAASC 2002-2004 Board of Directors and Executive
Committee was successfully carried out on January 12, 2002. Nearly 40 alumni
cast their votes either on-site or on-line. Here are the results of this
election:
1) All 10 candidates for the Board of Directors received overwhelming approvals
and only 1 objection for one candidate. Hence they were elected to be the
members of PUAASC 2002-2004 Board of Directors. Also, the majority of the
voters agreed to have a representative from the Alumni Association of Beijing
Medical University to be a member of the Board.
2) All 5 candidates for the Executive Committee received overwhelming approvals
and no objections. Hence they were elected to be the members of PUAASC
Executive Committee.
3) For the survey about your expectation for future PUAASC activities, the
following four kinds of activities were favored by the majority of the voters:
a) Social events that provide networking opportunities;
b) Activities that can help me with my career development either in the
United States or in China;
c) Activities that can keep me informed and involved in the future
development of Beida;
f) Fun club activities, e.g. ski club, hiking club, golf club, etc.;
The other two kinds of activities were favored by some voters:
d) Activities that can help me solve problems of everyday life, e.g.
health insurance, car insurance in the United States;
e) Activities that can help me understand more about American culture.
Following the election, the elected members of the Board of Directors nominated
and confirmed Ms. Li-Jean Wang (PKU 57' Chemistry) as the Chair of the Board of
Directors of PUAASC.
The elected Board of Directors voted and confirmed the following terms for each
member:
Ms. Li-Jean Wang (PKU 57' Chemistry): 4 years
Mr. Duanzhi Wen (PKU 64', Biochemistry): 4 years
Mr. Zhen-Su She (PKU Professorship 99', Mechanics): 4 years
Mr. Jason Cong (PKU 81', Computer Sciences): 4 years
Mr. Richard Li (PKU 81', Economics): 4 years
Mr. Wenge Xu (PKU 81', Physics): 4 years
Mr. Lee Min Han (PKU 84', Biology): 2 years
Mr. Sikun Lan (PKU 84', Mathematics): 2 years
Ms. Julie Gao (PKU 87', Law): 2 years
Mr. Feng Zeng (PKU 90', Political Sciences & Public Admin): 2 years
One director to be nominated by the Beijing Medical University Alumni
Association of Southern California: 2 years
Following the election, the elected members of the Executive Committee assigned
the following positions to each member:
Mr. Sikun Lan (PKU 84', Mathematics): President
Ms. Lina Pei (PKU 87', International Politics): Vice President
Ms. Wensheng Zhou (PKU 87', EE): Vice President
Ms. Hongmei Li (PKU 92', English): Vice President
Ms. Connie Yuan (PKU 90', English): Vice President and Secretary
The new 5-member Executive Committee are currently recruiting additional
members of the Executive Committee to serve the following subcommittees:
* Annual Convention * Alumni Networking * Alumni Support * Fund Raising
* IT/Communications * Membership Recruiting * PR - Local * PR - PKU
All alumni are welcome to join them to serve our fellow alumni and our alma
mater Peking University.
