Dear alumni and friends,

2007 CESASC Scholarship Application is now available at the CESASC website http://www.cesasc.orgIf you or your children are currently a US college undergraduate or graduate student, you are eligible to apply for the Scholarship. The application deadline is December 31, 2006.

At a recent press conference, CESASC Chairman Shan Lee told reporters that more than forty years ago, a group of engineers and scientists in Southern California formed CESASC to let the US society recognize the contributions Chinese-Americans have made in advanced science and technology of the time. They also established the organization to facilitate Chinese-American engineers and scientists to help each other in their careers. Later they established CESASC Scholarship Foundation and regularly gave financial awards to outstanding students and students in financial need in the spirit of CESASC. Most of these students are Chinese-Americans.

Tony Ding, the CESASC Public Relations Committee Chairman, commented that some old recipients of the CESASC Scholarship Awards are now making significant contributions to the society. He mentioned Dr. Linda Liau, the chief surgeon of UCLA Neurosurgery Department, who was the recipient of the CESASC Scholarship Award in 1986, was the recipient of the prestigious CESASC Achievement Award earlier this year.

Dr. Tzung Hsiai, the CESASC Scholarship Committee Chairman, explained that his Committee consists of professors from several Southern California universities and research institutes. They will select about 10 Scholarship recipients from all applicants based on academic achievements, potentials, future goals as well as extra-curriculum activities. Each scholarship is between $500 and $1,000. Applicants will be notified of their application status in March, 2007. Award recipients should attend the CESASC 45th Convention and Award Ceremony on April 14, 2007 at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport to receive the certificates and checks.
