Dear alumni and friends,
There will be a very interesting event tomorrow organized by the First Southern California Chinese Relay For Life (SCCRFL) committee, part of the American Cancer Society. The purpose of this Relay is to raise the awareness of the local Chinese community of the cancer support resources available, as well as to recruit volunteers and sponsors to support these resources. Many of our PKU alumni have friends or even themselves being cancer patients, so it's really a good event for us to participate in to bring our loves and cares to the local Chinese American communities.
Please find their announcement below.
Best regards,
PUAASC

Dear Friends:
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
* ACS raises more than 300 million dollars each year to support its mission.
* ACS is the largest private sponsor for cancer research and has funded more than 40 Nobel Prize Winners in their cancer research work.
* ACS Chinese Region collaborated with Chinese Government in 2008 and has successfully enforced none smoking policy through out Beijing Olympics events.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event, taking place across the nation and in countries around the globe. In fact, it’s the largest annual not-for-profit fundraising event in the world! It brings together 3.5 million people to:
* Celebrate – the lives of those who have battled cancer. It is the strength of cancer survivors that inspires us to continue the fight.
* Remember – loved ones lost to the disease. At Relay, those who have walked alongside those battling cancer can grieve and find healing.
* Fight back – against a disease that takes too much. We make a commitment to save a life by taking up the fight.
We are now planning the 1st Southern California Chinese Relay For Life (SCCRFL) scheduled on June 26 & 27, 2010 at Temple City High School. The purpose of this Relay is to raise the awareness of the local Chinese community of the cancer support resources available, as well as to recruit volunteers and sponsors to support these resources.
We would like to invite you to join our SCCRFL Kick Off Rally on Jan. 16 (Saturday), 2010, 3-6pm, at San Gabriel Hilton Hotel to celebrate the first-ever Southern California Chinese Relay for Life.
We are honored to have California State Senator Carol Liu to give an acknowledgment speech in the upcoming Kick Off event.
We appreciate your kind consideration and generous support.
Look forward to seeing you soon.
Regards,
Ling Wu
