-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear alumni,
I have been the Director of the Development Department
of Peking University Education Foundation (PKUEF) for
several years. I was happy to meet many Peking
University alumni in the US between March and May 2001
when I was part of the Peking University Education
Foundation delegation led by Peking University
President Xu Zhihong and Former Peking University
President and Chairman of Board of PKUEF-USA Chen
Jiaer. We successfully started the operation of
PKUEF-USA after the visit.
Now I accepted a long-term assignment from Peking
University to lead the operation of PKUEF-USA starting
from April this year. My office is in Millbrae,
California near San Francisco. You may reach me by
e-mail pkuef2002@yahoo.com or phone/fax 650-259-9883.
With the direct guidance of the Chairman and President
of PKUEF-USA, I set my main goal for 2002 to reaching
out to as many alumni as possible. I have already
talked all the presidents of Peking University Alumni
Associations in many cities in the US and received
tremendous support from them.
In order to establish the communication to alumni, I
set up following work plan. I am looking forward to
your advice and support.
1. I am working on to create a regular newsletter
containing Peking University news, US alumni news,
alumni interviews, and alumni association activities
in the US. The newsletter will be in printed format
containing both Chinese and English articles. I will
seek a lot of support from all of you in collecting
material, editing, printing, and distributing the
newsletters.
2. I wish to mail the newsletters to hundreds and
thousands of alumni in the US. Considering the fact
that there may be as many as 20,000 Peking University
alumni residing in the US, maintaining alumni data is
a labor-intensive work. With limited human resources
currently available to such a job, a computer-based
system is required for technical assistance. With some
alumni's help, two system requirement documents
"ADS_details.doc" and "Request_for_Proposal.doc"
are completed and are available at
"http://pku.org/document/Word/". I invite alumni and
friends who are in IT business to provide technical
proposals to me by August 15, 2002 to
pkuef2002@yahoo.com. I will invite some
well-established IT system professionals to evaluate
the submitted proposals and assign the system
implementation project to the winner.
Please be free to e-mail me or call me. I am here to
work for you and connect you to our Alma Mater.
Sincerely,
Zheng Xu
