Dear alumni,
We've learned (thanks to Mr. Zhou, Hong) that Dr. Hui Cai, one of Beida's
outstanding alumni, was selected by the mayor of the city of San Diego and
approved by the city council to be one of the 17-member Science and Technology
Commission of San Diego.
Founded in 1990, the Commission's purpose is to advise the mayor and city
council of San Diego on policy and issues regarding the city's development of
science and technology. Its members are selected from San Diego's biotech,
wireless, high-tech and scientific community, and the academic and research
community. According to Mr. Zhou, Dr. Hui Cai is the only member there with
Asian ethnic background.
Dr. Hui Cai graduated from Beida's Chemistry department in 1989. She then
studied in UCSD and Scripps Research Institute. She is now working in Johnson
& Johnson as a researcher. Dr. Hui Cai is very active in both PKU alumni and
local Chinese affairs (for instance, she serves as the Vice President of the
Division of Science and Business in the San Diego Chinese Association). She
just organized a very successful biotech forum in May 2002.
Let's sincerely congratulate Dr. Hui Cai on her accomplishments.
Best regards,
PUAASC
