Dear PKU Alumni:
The term of our current PUAASC Executive Committee (EC) and 4 of our 12 members of the Board of Directors (BOD) will be ended at the end of this year. According to the PUAASC Bylaw, a new Executive Committee and 3 new board members will be elected before the beginning of year 2012 to serve the next term. The term of the ECs is 2 years and the term of the board members is 4 years. To prepare for the election, the current board has formed an election committee, which consists of three members of the board, Katie Pan, Hongyu Zhang and Gene Chang. The election committee has decided to hold the election on Nov 12, 2011 (Saturday). The exact time and place will be announced in a separate notice in the next two weeks.
The election committee cordially calls our fellow alumni to participate in the coming election. Following are the rules for the coming elections:
1) Each competing EC team shall consist of a President candidate and at least one Vice President candidate. To represent the broad member base of PUAASC, each team is encouraged, but not required, to have up to four Vice Presidents (at least one from Beijing Medical University and one student). The responsibility of the new EC is to manage the day-to-day operation of PUAASC from 2012 to 2013; and the responsibility of the board members is to supervise and provide resource for PUAASC;
2) By the end of October 31, 2011, each candidate must present this election committee their valid affiliation with Peking University (PKU) and PUAASC meeting ALL of the following requirements:
- Effective studying/working affiliation with PKU. It can be a formal degree or diploma issued by Peking University; without the diploma or degree, the candidate need to provide other legal documents proving the candidate has studied or worked in PKU equal to or longer than one year of time span.
- Residence in southern California, including the Los Angeles metropolitan area and San Diego area.
3) By the end of October 31, 2011, each candidate must submit to this election committee a written work plan and bios of the team members. The election committee is responsible for disseminating the work plan and bios of all election teams to the members of PUAASC at least 3 days before the election.
4) The newly elected President of EC automatically becomes a BOD. Each of the BOD candidates shall be nominated by an existing BOD member, and election of the BOD shall immediately begin after the EC election.

Ever since the inception of PUAASC in 1985, each term of BODs and ECs had worked together diligently serving PKU alumni in Southern California and contributed greatly to the prosperity of PUAASC. We welcome more of our capable fellow alumni with the great spirit of community service to take the leadership to serve our organization. The proposed election date will be held on Nov 12, 2011.
