PUAASC's Meeting with Guangzhou Delegation
posted on Oct 17 2002

Dear alumni,

On Wednesday October 16, PUAASC President Dr. Sikun Lan and Vice President Dr.

Wensheng Zhou met the Deputy Director-General Pan Dingwen of Guangzhou Science

and Technology Bureau and the Director of Office of Guangzhou Convention of

Overseas Chinese Scholars in Science and Technology (OCS) in east LA. The two

gentlemen were in charge of the 5th OCS Convention on December 28-30, 2002.

They expressed warm welcome to the proposed joint PUAASC/CSA/CAST-LA delegation

to the Convention and stressed the following point:

1. Although the Convention is in Guangzhou, it is a national event organized by

several Ministries in China. Many people found opportunities in Beijing,

Shanghai, and many other cities and provinces in previous conventions.

2. There are many ways that overseas Chinese can help various commercial,

academic, and governmental corporations or organizations or establish their own

businesses without committing to go back to China on the permanent or long term

basis. We are welcome to seek all kinds of opportunities. All applications will

be approved as long as the they are adequately filed.

3. Our delegation can make special requests for looking for or visiting certain

places or companies. They will handle the requests with priorities.

There have been several alumni who have filed the applications (see

http://www.ocs-gz.gov.cnand have been approved within days. In late November

or early December, we will organize all attendees from Southern California to

gather together to know each other and collect special requests. PUAASC regards

this event a great opportunity to know what's happening in China today and how

you may be part of it. If you can make your time to be in China at the end of

year, you should consider to attend the event. If you are unable to go to

Guangzhou this time but you want others to help you seek opportunities, please

be free to contact us as well.

The air tickets to and from China at the end of 2002 and early 2003 are already

hard to get. PUAASC suggests those alumni who want to go to the Guangzhou

convention to purchase air tickets first and file applications later. For more

information about air tickets or applications, please contact Dr. Sikun Lan at

sikun@yahoo.com or 310-302-3018.

Best regards,

PUAASC
