Dear Alumni,

ALUMNI GATHERING:
The first event, the alumni gathering, began at about 2:30 PM in Hilton

development opportunity, thanks to the huge financial support by the central
government. The university has set up a goal to become a world-class university
by 2015. However, at this stage, the most important task for Peking University
is infrastructure building because the living and research conditions at PKU
are still poor. Peking University plans to investment several billions of RMB
in the next five years to improve the living and research conditions
dramatically. These funds will mainly come from the central government and bank
loans. Peking University also expects to get more helps from its alumni and
friends. With regard to university management, President Xu said that
communication with students, faculty and staff is his top priority. He believes
that pointed criticism is a great tradition of Peking University, which should
be fully exploited. To facilitate communication, a President Mailbox at
www.beida-online.com was established so that everyone can talk directly to the
President.
